Helpful Tips for Maryland Bridge Travel This Summer

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

With the coming of Memorial Day, the summer travel season is right around the corner.  Here are some tips to help you arrive safely to your destination, while travelling over Maryland bridges, this season.

Plan Ahead-Try to leave early or late enough to avoid traffic.  You can get real-time traffic conditions for the Bay bridge by calling 1-877-BAYSPAN or www.baybridge.com for live traffic cams.

Be Visible-Turn on your headlights while travelling.  Also, do not change lanes on bridges.  If you feel you need to change lanes then make your intentions known by using your blinkers.

Obey The Posted Speed Limits- Slow down....afterall you are on vacation!

Follow Overhead Signals- They will keep you informed of how many lanes are open for your direction of travel.

Avoid Distractions- There are always boats on the bay this time of year so try not to focus on them instead of the road.

Do Not Tailgate- Please give yourself space when travelling bridges.  Remember some people are afraid of driving on big bridges so they will naturally drive slower.

Avoid Using Cell Phones- If you need to use a phone while driving on a bridge, please remember you must use a hands free device as cell phone use IS illegal while driving.

EZ-Pass?- If you have an EZ-Pass make sure it us up to date before travelling.  It was give you more convenience and less of a headache.

Enjoy your family this summer and be safe in your travels!

MVA Emergency Contact Information

Monday, November 21, 2011

Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) announced it has added an emergency contact option to Maryland Driver’s Licenses.  Maryland drivers can now add three emergency contacts to their Driver’s License so police will know whom to call if an accident occurs.  The emergency contact information is stored electronically on an individual’s Driver’s License and will be available only to authorized law enforcement personnel.

You can go to MVA’s website at www.mva.maryland.gov and add your three emergency contacts in just a few minutes. Go to the website, under “On-line Transactions”, click “More”, then click “Emergency Contacts” to add your emergency contacts. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes.
